چکیده

The complex relation between energy use and the economic process has long attracted attention. Issues such as the scarcity of energy resources, energy theory of value, degrowth and a-growth approaches are closely related to the relationship between energy and development. The present study traces the implications of the Energy-GDP causality dialogue for the context of the growth-degrowth debate, where the energy-development link plays a decisive role. In that context, the present research investigates the possible existence of a fundamental “macro” direction of causality between energy use and economic growth that is not influenced by study-specific characteristics and events. Towards this objective, we perform a meta-analysis that takes into account 158 studies on causality between energy and GDP, covering the period 1978e2011. This is the first time, to our knowledge, that meta-analysis has been applied to investigate the direction of the energy and GDP causal relationship. The meta-analysis results neither support the existence of a fundamental “macro” direction, nor the so-called “neutrality hypothesis (E s GDP)” in the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth. 2013 Elsevier Ltd. On The Relationship between Energy Consumption and Real GDP on Iran: An Application of VEC Mode

This paper examines the causal relationship between energy use and real GDP for the period 1967-2002 in Iran. The results of Phillips- Perron test indicate that the real GDP and the four categories of energy, i.e. coal, oil, gas, and hydroelectric energy are integrated of order one. Besides, the Johansen — Juselius maximum likelihood co- integration tests imply the existence of Granger causalit...

Sustainability in Arab Countries: An Investigation of the Relationship Between Economic Development and Energy Consumption

Sustainability in 19 different Arab countries has been studied through investigating the relationship between economic development and energy consumption. Data collected has been studied as a whole (Total countries data) and as segregated data (Oil exporting and Oil importing countries data) i.e. three categories. The regression model used measures the effect of independent and control variable...

Investigation of Factors Affecting Energy Consumption in Iran (with Emphasis on Financial Development Variable)

For many years, the issue of climate pollution has been seriously addressed and has involved the minds of politicians, statesmen and even the general public. Hence, we decided to study the relationship between energy consumption, financial development, economic growth, energy prices, and urbanization during the 1970- 2016 period by applying the Boundary Test Approach and applying it to Distribu...

Threshord Effect of the Economic Growth Rate on the Development of Renewable Energy: Evidences from OPEC Countries

This paper studies the non linear relationship between energy prices, natural resources rent opportunities and renewable energy consumption under different economic growth rates for OPEC member countries during the 2005-2016 period.  Using a panel smooth transition regression (PSTR) model, our findings prove a non-linear relationship between renewable energy consumption and the rate of economi...

Exploring the Trade Openness, Energy Consumption and Economic Growth Relationship in Iran by Bayer and Hanck Combined Cointegration and Causality Analysis

This paper aims to investigate the direction of causality between economic growth, energy consumption and trade openness in case of Iran for the period 1967–2012. We apply the newly developed combined cointegration test proposed by Bayer and Hanck (2013). Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) is applied to determine the direction of causality between these three variables. The result of Bayer-Ha...
